In-person / Hybrid Training Options
The Health + Community Care Workforce Sector Council (HCCWSC) has a range of training options available. Our In-person and Hybrid training gives your staff excellent instructor led experience in any of the subjects listed below. The majority of our training is delivered via instructor-led virtual training, however, the Council does offer in-person training based on facilitator availability and Council resources.

The Working Mind (TWM)
“The Working Mind (TWM) is an evidence-based training program developed to initiate a shift in how you think, act, and feel about mental health. The program is owned and administered by Opening Minds (Mental Health Commission of Canada). This foundational program is designed to provide practical knowledge and skills to reduce stigma. This training is open to all managers/leaders and employees of the Continuing Care sector. We offer a program for all managers/people leaders as well as a program for all other

employees.”
Mental Health First Aid (MHFA)
“While we often know a lot about physical illness, there tends to be less knowledge about mental health or substance use problems. This lack of understanding leads to fear and negative attitudes toward individuals living with mental health or substance use problems. It prevents people from seeking help and providing appropriate support to people around them.
Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is offered to someone with an emerging mental health or substance use problem or in crisis, until appropriate treatment is found or the situation resolves.”

Diversity, Equity, Inclusivity, and Accessibility (DEIA)
“Equity Deserving groups refer to communities that face barriers to equal access, opportunities and resources as a result of disadvantage and discrimination. This marginalization could be created by attitudinal, historic, social and environmental barriers based on age, ethnicity, disability, economic status, gender, nationality, race, sexual orientation and gender identity etc.”
– Zoe Hawkins, Health + Community Care Workforce Sector Council DEIA specialist
The council offers specialized services that can assist your facility by providing in person training and information about DEIA. Join us in learning the value of integrating DEIA policies and practices in your workplace.
Gentle Persuasive Approaches (GPA®) Initiative
GPA is an educational intervention with the specialized purpose of providing staff with the knowledge, skills and confidence to support persons with dementia and responsive behaviours, including more highly escalated behaviours that may require gentle and respectful physical redirection or temporary body containment strategies. To illustrate, this could include delivery of medication to treat episodes of congestive heart failure, administration of urgently required diabetes medication, and stepping in to prevent injury if the person with dementia is experiencing acute hyperactive delirium (RNAO, 2016; Toughy, Jett, Boscarty & McCleary, 2012).

Contagious Resilient Leadership
“The program’s foundation is centred around evidence-based research to help leaders manage the positive to negative emotion ratio to produce a contagious innovative mindset in followers based on the “broaden and build” theory (Fredrickson, 2001).
Their research determined that a higher level of positive emotions was required to reach the

“broaden and build stage”. It also indicated that a certain amount of negativity is necessary to
maintain reality as hardships happen. Humans feel the impacts of these events; it’s how they
rebound from these hardships that influence their success.”
The council offers online Contagious Resilient Leadership training. This training program was developed by Heidi Weigand, the council extends a warm thank you for sharing the fruits of her research and development.
Long-Term Care Orientation
“The Long-Term Care Orientation for RNs and LPNs course supports nurses as they transition to practice. This course provides standardized education for nurses within LTC.
This will ensure nurses within LTC are able to care for residents and families/caregivers. Nurses will be supported to meet the knowledge and skill requirements to perform their roles, responsibilities, and provide access to quality, resident-centred care.”
